NO SPOILERSLegendary Frybread Drive-In is a collection of short stories, plus a closing poem, by Native writers, edited by Cynthia Leitich Smith. Every story visits the same place, Sandy June's Legendary Frybread Drive-In, where Elders known as legendary grandparents cook, serve, and hand out advice along with the food. The drive-in appears for Native teens across Turtle Island when they need it, and they reach it by strange routes. In one story, a Chickasaw girl trapped in a storm cellar during a tornado warning gets the door open and finds herself somewhere else. In another, a gamer goes silent for days while her online friends try to figure out why. A Diné boy trying to cook his late grandma's blue corn mush for his grieving mother spots his own fridge in an ad, a scared girl gets lost in a downpour on the day of her grandfather's funeral, and a rez garage band argues over whether the drive-in even exists.
