Terms of Service

Last updated: 2026-04-28. First-pass content; lawyer review pending (see docs/LEGAL_REVIEW_TODO.md).

1. Agreement

By creating an account on bookbright.app or the BookBright mobile app, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

2. Who can use BookBright

Children under 13 may only use BookBright via a student profile created by a parent or legal guardian under a parent account. Users 13 and older may create their own account directly. Teachers and librarians may create a free teacher account that does not include study features.

3. Subscription and billing

Paid subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled. You may cancel at any time from account settings. Refunds for the most recent billing period are available within 14 days of charge by emailing support. Web subscriptions are processed through Stripe. Mobile subscriptions are processed through Apple App Store or Google Play; their terms also apply.

4. Acceptable use

Do not attempt to disrupt the service, scrape question content for redistribution, share account credentials publicly, or use the service to harass others. Share codes are intended for use with a single class or family group.

5. Content and intellectual property

Question content is owned by BookBright. Book titles, authors, and quoted passages remain the property of their respective copyright holders and are referenced for educational fair-use purposes. User-generated book lists and book request submissions are licensed to BookBright for the purpose of operating the service.

6. Termination

You may delete your account at any time from account settings. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms. On termination, student profile data is deleted within 30 days unless retention is required by law.

7. Disclaimers and limitation of liability

The service is provided “as is.” BookBright disclaims warranties of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose. Liability is limited to the amount paid for the service in the 12 months preceding the claim.

8. Disputes

Disputes are governed by the laws of Montana, USA. Final dispute-resolution wording (arbitration vs. litigation, class-action waiver) is subject to lawyer review before launch.

9. Changes

We may update these terms. Material changes will be communicated by email at least 30 days before they take effect.
