NO SPOILERSRay Halfmoon lives with his grandfather, Grampa Halfmoon, in a redbrick bungalow in Chicago, and the rest of their family lives in Oklahoma. This book is six linked stories about everyday problems that Ray and Grampa work out together. After Grampa admires a pair of moccasins in an antique shop, Ray realizes Grampa is homesick, and he comes up with an idea. Ray is the ring bearer at a friend's wedding and finds out, minutes before it starts, that his tux pants are missing. When their pickup quits, Ray and Grampa spend a snowy Christmas in the city for the first time, looking after the neighbors' pets. Ray also paints a picture for a citywide art contest, needs a haircut right before a big baseball game, and visits Oklahoma, where Grampa keeps heading out to fish before sunrise and will only say that he is after "something bigger."
