ABOUT THE BOOK
NO SPOILERSHannah Ashton wakes up in a Houston that has gone completely silent. For five days she has seen no one else at all, and with the biggest ballet audition of her life two days away, she can barely admit how frightened she is. When she sneaks into her best friend's family bookstore for something to read, she hears a guitar playing on the other side of the wall and climbs up into the ceiling to spy on whoever is there. It turns out to be Leo Sterling, a boy from her school who fronts a scrappy eighties cover band called Rat Skillet. Leo has spent his own five days the opposite way, tearing around Houston in his battered old Firebird and breaking into hotels and record stores rather than sit still with his thoughts. Thrown together as the only two people left in an otherwise empty city, Hannah and Leo start driving all over Houston looking for answers, for other survivors, and, more and more, for reasons to keep being around each other.
