When a demon-possessed bear mauls his father and leaves him dying, Torak inherits a desperate mission: travel north to the Mountain of the World Spirit and destroy the bear before it slaughters every living thing in the Forest. Armed with his father's knife, an oath sworn on his own blood, and very little else, Torak sets out alone. He soon discovers a wolf cub whose entire pack was killed in a flood, and the two form an unlikely bond that may be the key to everything his father promised.
