NO SPOILERSThirteen-year-old Capricorn "Cap" Anderson has spent his whole life on Garland Farm, a tiny commune in the country, raised by his grandmother Rain with no television, no phone, and no other kids to talk to. When Rain breaks her hip falling out of a plum tree and has to spend weeks in a rehab center, Cap is dropped into Claverage Middle School for the first time in his life, completely unprepared for lockers, lunch periods, spitballs, and the bewildering social rules that govern a school of eleven hundred students. The story follows Cap as he stumbles through this unfamiliar world and, against all odds, starts to change it.
