NO SPOILERSJoe is turning 10 when his best friends Fred and Sam come over for his birthday party. The best gift arrives last: a strange, dark blue book with gold stars, silver designs, and the simple title "The Book," sent by Joe's Uncle Joe, a traveling circus magician. When Fred grabs it and opens it to a picture of a knight on horseback, he wishes out loud that they could see "knights and all that stuff for real" and pale green mist fills the kitchen. In seconds, Joe, Fred, and Sam find themselves standing in a clearing in what looks very much like the Middle Ages, facing a heavily armored Black Knight who is pointing a lance directly at them.
