When Karen's teacher announces that the class Halloween party will end with everyone telling scary stories, Karen decides her true ghost story about Ben Brewer will beat anything her classmate Pamela Harding can come up with. There is just one problem: nobody in her family can tell her how Ben became a ghost or why he was ever haunted in the first place. With help from her big stepsister Kristy, Karen searches old family records and even Ben's own dusty bedroom, and what they find pulls her into a hunt for the truth that lasts all the way through Halloween night.
