When his mom discovers exactly how much dirty laundry that plan has left behind, she grounds him until every load is washed, and Eddie is stuck doing chores in the basement while the rest of town heads to the beach without him. Then the power goes out, fireworks start going off hours early, and his friend Xavier shows up in a panic with only half a haircut. As Eddie tracks down his best friend Sonia and two more kids from the neighborhood, Trey and Sage, it becomes clear that something much stranger than a blackout is going on, and the five of them might be the only people left in Carterville.
