The family is desperately poor, surviving on cabbage soup and bread, and Charlie gets only one chocolate bar a year for his birthday. His torment is that the world's most magnificent chocolate factory sits right in his town, owned by the mysterious Willy Wonka, a man no one has seen in years. When Wonka announces that five Golden Tickets are hidden in Wonka chocolate bars around the world, and that the five finders will win a tour of his factory and a lifetime supply of sweets, Charlie's slim chance at finding one sets the whole story in motion.
