NO SPOILERSAurora Petrequin and her next-door neighbor Frenchie Livernois have been a team since they met at the bus stop three years ago. Frenchie has never spoken a word, but Aurora has spent years learning to read him better than almost anyone, and a classroom aide once called her his special person, a title that stuck. This year the two sixth graders are placed in different classrooms for the first time. It is not a mistake, no amount of calling the school changes it, and Aurora is still dreading it when something much bigger goes wrong. Then, on the first Friday in September, Frenchie walks out of school and does not come back. Police, search teams, and half the town turn out to look for him, and Aurora is convinced of something nobody else quite believes, that Frenchie always knows exactly where he is going, even when it looks like he is lost.
