Jamie, a careful, anxious sixteen-year-old who has survived alone since his mother died, points a rifle at him instead of shooting him, then spends the following weeks nursing Andrew's badly infected leg back to health using the medical notebook his mother left behind. As Andrew heals, an easy friendship grows between the two boys, built on movie trivia, terrible jokes, and the kind of trust neither expected to find again in a mostly empty world, and it slowly turns into something more. But Andrew is hiding something, a destination he has been carrying with him since before he ever found the cabin, and when danger finally reaches Jamie's door, both boys have to decide how far they will go, and who they are willing to become, to keep each other safe.
